Pipeline silencer

Industrial Silencer (Muffler) is a noise reduction device that allows airflow to pass through while blocking sound transmission. It is primarily used to eliminate aerodynamic noise generated by fans, exhaust systems, steam venting and other equipment, and widely applied in power, chemical, metallurgical, mining and other industries.

Working Principle

Sound energy is converted into heat energy or mutually counteracted via physical approaches including sound absorption, reflection, interference and diffusion, so as to reduce noise without obstructing gas flow. Typical noise attenuation ranges from 15 to 40 dB(A).

Main Types & Characteristics

Resistive Silencer (Absorption Type)

Principle:Porous materials such as glass wool, rock wool and ceramic fiber are filled inside. Sound waves rub against pores and dissipate acoustic energy as heat.

Features:Excellent attenuation for medium and high frequency noise (200–8000 Hz); simple structure and low cost; vulnerable to moisture and prone to clogging by dust.

Application:Fan inlet & outlet, air conditioning duct, air compressor exhaust.

Compound Resistive-Reactive Silencer

Principle:Combines resistive and reactive structures: porous absorption materials control medium & high frequency noise, while expansion/resonance structures suppress low-frequency noise to achieve broadband noise reduction.

Features:Full coverage of low, medium and high frequency bands (20–8000 Hz); noise attenuation of 25–45 dB(A); moderately complex structure with medium cost.

Application:High-noise broadband working conditions including large fans, gas turbines, boiler exhaust and steam turbines.

Small-hole Jet Silencer (Exclusive for High-pressure Venting)

Principle:A single large exhaust port is divided into hundreds of tiny holes (φ1–3 mm), shifting noise spectrum to ultra-high frequency (>10 kHz) insensitive to human hearing to cut audible noise.

Features:Specially designed for high-pressure gas venting (pressure ≥1 MPa); noise attenuation of 30–50 dB(A); low flow resistance and no vulnerable spare parts.

Application:Steam venting of power plant & chemical plant boilers, safety valve exhaust, pressure vessel pressure relief.
